Purple ammolite in gold

This is the first truly purple ammolite I've come across. I got it from my favorite ammolite supplier, Dale Penrod. As you scan thru my gallery, nearly all the ammolite featured is from him. This is smaller than most, but the blue and purple are the rarest ammolite. The colors seen in ammolite are related to the thickness of the gem layers. The blue and purple are thinner, therefore more fragile, and more rare than the thicker red and green colors. I will be featuring more than one view of this dynamic gem in my gallery, because, like most ammolite, one picture doesn't even come close to telling the whole story.

This pendant is about 1.5 inches in length. The wire is 22 g square gold filled.
